Mike Pinder, Founding Keyboardist of the Moody Blues, Dies at 82
I always enjoyed their "concept" albums and the fascinating cover art. I never thought of their music as "psychedelic"; more "metaphysical", maybe. My fave tune from their earliest "famous album"; a theme probably most of the outdoor lovers here can appreciate:
"There are yahoos out there. It’s why we can’t have nice things." - Tom Mahood

RIP indeed; he was the spiritual heart of the band, IMHO during the classic years. After he left, the latter years of the Moodies were fun, but lacked the same dimension and beauty of those first 7 albums. And he was the Mellotron virtuosa. Only Justin and John left now.....
I always loved this Mike Pinder penned Moody Blues tune; I always thought he was referring to the ability to look meditatively inside as well as perceive the outer world. It turns out it was an ode to the night sky in which he would stare for hours as a boy when the English skies parted!
