WTA has volunteer work. The other group is the PCTA, Pacific Crest Trail Assoc.
There are usually training sessions coming up soon and those fill up. One was Trails Skills College? held in Cascade Locks, OR. They have classes in using tools, work done on trails, and saws. I'm pretty sure they also have the same thing closer to Seattle, but I bet it fills up quicker. Both groups plus Backcountry Horsemen are involved.
Saw certification used to have it's own weekend, dunno if that is still the case. Just don't walk in with your hand dripping blood, it makes people a bit anxious -- yes, I still passed the test.
