Does anybody know where to get these? Or if they even need replacing? This one has always served me well, and I always carry spare batteries. But I recall one time my Maglite bulb went out on me at 9000' with five miles left in the dark. I was dang glad I had a spare. Just want to make sure I'm prepared in case this happens to the Petzl. I've heard bulb life for LEDs is much longer than halogen but just want to figure it out. Thanks!

Just where is it I can find beaver, bear, and other critters that are worth cash money when skint?

Thanks Jeff. I assume it's not worth the weight to carry an entire second headlamp...?

I usually carry a second headlight for night hiking even if LEDs not because of the bulbs which last forever, but rather the batteries the Tikkas in particular are pain to change in the dark and are not particularly strong.

We always do. One for each of us, plus a spare. Even if we don't expect to be out after dark. Surprises happen. One of us might drop ours. It could get lost or smashed. And who wants to fumble with batteries in the dark? They don't weigh that much, and the peace of mind is worth it.

I will bring a second headlamp, but that is because I would rather not mess with swapping batteries in the cold and dark.
I agree with all the above. up.gif I always have a spare headlamp as well. It's handy to have a 'not-so-bright' headlamp for around camp (Tikkina) as well as something brighter for walking, emergencies, etc.. so I can rationalize carrying the spare! smile.gif

LEDs will outlive you. Something else in the circuit is much more likely to be the cause of a failure in an LED headlamp. I always carry an ultralight spare single AAA cell headlamp.

Sweet. Any suggestions on brand/model for the ultralight?

Mine is a discontinued regulated 2 LED Gerber that REI had on super sale a few years ago so I picked up a couple, very lightweight, reliable so far. You might check out the Fexix HL10. Others?

This one looks nice. Big output for the single battery. Much better than the $7 junkers you find at Target. Of course your duration suffers but at one AAA just bring a couple extra batteries and you're good.

27 hours on low (3 lumens), which is adequate for camp and will get you out via trail in a pinch. Re spare batteries, my strategy is to have a main headlamp with 2 or 3 AAA cells. If the circuitry fails I can use those cells in my single AAA cell backup light.
