As I left the house yesterday morning, I told my wife I'd let her know where I was going when I figured it out.
Really thought it would be near Rainier, or maybe Painted Mountain (near Darrington).
In the end the drier conditions of the Teanaway drew me in. Turned out to be a good call for the day.
The North Fork Rd. is in good shape and snow free to the trailhead.
Had a snack at the pass, and decided to head to Iron first.
I hadn't been up Iron in a few years and had forgotten what a great spot it is.
Enjoyed the views for a while then headed back to the saddle. Had a nice chat when two women that were heading up the ridge. We all felt pretty lucky to be there on such a fine day.
Nearly bailed on Teanaway Peak. Temps had warmed up and the snow was softening. The traverse looked a bit sketchy. Decided to check it out, and it was fine, so I headed up. BTW, I saw no signs on avalanche the hold trip.
It was a fun day. I felt lucky being able to catch the nice window in the weather.
Cheers B!
