I walked up the Deer Ridge Trail to Deer Park yesterday and out Grand Ridge to Maiden Peak. Deer Park is melted out although the road was not yet opened. No significant snow on Grand Ridge until the last mile or so before Maiden Peak. Then you're off and on snow until the hillside before the first high point of Maiden Peak. As usual there's a large drift across the trail just as you round the bend to a more southerly aspect of the ridge. It was soft enough to get over today but is a significant barrier if the snow is hard. The hillside is probably melted out enough that you can bypass it now on the uphill side if necessary. After that lots of bare ground to the main summit of Maiden Peak and beyond to Elk Mountain-although that's a long walk until the road to Deer Park is opened. Photos
